Armoured Vehicle Testing & Evaluation
Unlike many range facilities, armoured vehicles can be dual tested on site to all blast and ballistic standards to meet the full spectrum of defence and security armoured vehicle standards.
Facilities:
An indoor 20m ballistic test facility, with a target bay accommodating targets up to 4m x 6m in size, allows the ballistic testing of the full range of calibres, including Fragment Simulating Projectile (FSP). We offer dedicated re-loading facilities and provide calibrated instrumentation to measure and record projectile velocities, as well as being able to adjust barrels and target structures to maximise shot angles from the side or from above.
Outside there is a large arena with a concrete test pad for side blast and fragmentation trials or we can conduct mine blast trials utilising specified aggregates in purpose made pits. Our calibrated instrumentation enables the capture of vehicle acceleration data, blast over-pressure and utilising full-scale Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD) as “Crash Test Dummies”.
A covered work area is available for on-site vehicle repair.
Services Offered:
Full vehicle test and certification capability.
Manufacture and validation of surrogate AT mines and grenades.
TNT casting of surrogate grenades, including bespoke spherical charges and IEDs.
The customer is encouraged to be present for all ballistic trials, with on-site catering provided.
Trials work may be halted where appropriate in order to facilitate modification of the test subject.
Examples of test protocols (not exclusive):
NATO AEP-55: Procedures for Evaluating the Protection Level of Logistic and Light Armoured Vehicles.
STANAG 4569: Protection Levels for Occupants of Logistic and Light Armoured Vehicles.
VSAG-12: Ballistic and Blast Testing for Civilian Armoured Vehicles (CAV).
VPAM BRV (2009): Bullet Resistance for Special Protected Vehicles.
VPAM ERV (2010): Detonation of 15kg TNT from 2m at a high of 1m from the side of the vehicle.
